Jovon Bouknight - Wide Receivers Coach

Jovon Bouknight has endured early success as a collegiate football coach. His football career began at the University of Wyoming where he was a standout wide receiver for the Cowboys. He then had brief stints in the NFL with the Carolina Panthers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After that he quickly was able to secure a graduate assistant coaching position at his alma mater Wyoming where he used that experience to turn it into a full-time coaching job at Utah State as the Wide Receivers Coach, Passing Game Coordinator and Co-Offensive Coordinator for them. After a long tenure coaching at Utah State, Bouknight was able to secure a job coaching at Texas Tech that lasted a short while before another big opportunity came. He was named a coach at the University of Oregon that translated into quick success as they won the Rose Bowl while he was there. After that, Bouknight secured a job at the University of Kentucky as the Wide Receivers Coach for the past two seasons.

His first year was a success as Kentucky won their third straight bowl game. This year Kentucky has gone 9-3 up to this point and was one of the best teams in the nation after starting the year with six straight wins. That catapulted the Wildcats in the rankings as the 11th ranked team in the country. They then dropped three in a row but were able to bounce back with three more wins to end the regular season. This was enough for Ketucky to get into one of the top bowl games this year against the University of Iowa in the Citrus Bowl. Bouknight has found one of the best things about his coaching job at the University of Kentucky to be the emergence of Kentucky’s star wide receiver this year in Wan'Dale Robinson. He led the team in receiving with over 1,000 yards on the year that earned him all kinds of recognition in the Southeastern Conference

This year Kentucky will look to win another game on New Year’s Day, similar to what Bouknight did in the Rose Bowl while at Oregon. Iowa should prove to be a tough opponent as they were ranked as high as the No. 2 team in the country at one point during this season. This Kentucky team has a high-powered offense though and it should be a big-time showdown on the first day of the year.
